Manual material processing

🛠 Course description

Manual material processing: scribing, centre punching, marking

In this practical course, you will learn the basics of working precisely with metal:

  • How to correctly transfer dimensions and shapes to workpieces (marking out)
  • How to set drilling points and markings safely with grits
  • How to mark workpieces permanently and cleanly

You will work with typical tools such as scriber needles, compasses, mouldboards and centre punches - and learn what is important in terms of occupational safety and environmental protection.

Target group: Trainees in their first year of training in metal technology

Course contents

Allocation of marking, graining and labelling
Learn how to prepare your tools precisely for a project: from scribing to centre-punching and marking. Here you will learn the basics of these techniques which will enable you to work error-free.

  • Scribing in general
  • Graining in general
  • Labelling in general

General principles
Build your foundation stone on a rock and understand the basis for precise work. With the following content, you will learn how to achieve clean and safe work results with simple tools.

Marking - graining - labelling
This is where the practical implementation begins: you learn how to scribe precise lines, how to centre punch to prepare for drilling and how to mark further processing steps.

Drilling - Countersinking - Reaming
In this chapter, you will learn about machining: here you will learn how to drill precise holes, optimise the surface using countersinks and achieve perfect dimensional accuracy using reamers.

Files
Precise manual work is required in this chapter. You will learn different file shapes and techniques for cleanly deburring a surface and its edges.

Thread production
In some components, screws have to be inserted and it makes sense to drill an internal or external thread based on the work instructions. This is a must for every mechanical connection.

Chiselling
In this chapter, the correct striking technique is important for the precise cutting of materials: you will learn different types of chiselling and how to apply the correct striking technique to each type without using a machine.

Testing - Measuring - Gauging
To ensure quality, the workpieces must be measured using the correct measuring tools. In this chapter, you will learn how to recognise dimensional deviations at an early stage and how to use calipers and other measuring tools to ensure the accuracy of your work.

Saws
Sawing is not just cutting: In this chapter, you will learn what saws are available, how to use them safely, how to choose the right saw blade and how to achieve a clean and efficient cut.

Quiz
Your knowledge will be tested here using a quiz. We hope you paid attention and took part :)
